Biography
Professor Masataka obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Tokyo in 1983. After his postdoctoral studies at Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin, He obtained an Assistant Professor position at the University of Tokyo. Thereafter, He served as academic staffs at two other universities, and He is a Professor at Tohoku University since 1998. His present research field is molecular genetics and genomics of environmental bacterial strains and their communities, especially focusing on those able to efficiently degrade recalcitrant chemical pollutants. He is serving as an editorial broad member of Applied and Environmental Microbiology for more than recent ten years.
